STREAMING SERVICE BREAKDOWNS:
OVERVIEW: Amazon’s streaming option offers an eclectic library of content at a solid price. Plus, with the online shopping giant’s enormous bankroll behind it, Amazon Prime’s catalog of both original and licensed shows is only going to grow as time goes on.
PROS: Amazon Prime has probably the the best overall content library available. From current favorites to classic TV, there’s a little something for everyone on there, including a lot of underrated shows like Suits and Hannibal you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Plus, they are the exclusive streaming home to a portion of HBO’s TV library (Outside of HBONow).
CONS: Amazon’s Prime’s library might be wide-spread, but it is thin in a lot of places. Especially if you’ve watched a lot of TV in the past, the odds you’ll exhaust Amazon Prime’s current library rather quickly are pretty high, and though the company is investing a lot of money into it’s original content, aside from Transparent most of their offerings have failed to make much of an impact.
BOTTOM LINE: Right now, Amazon Prime still lags behind Netflix (And Hulu, for my money). That being said, with the money being invested into it, there’s absolutely no reason that Prime can’t jump into first place in the future. Amazon does offer a college program (Advertised as a 6 month free trial). So once you get your .edu email address, it won’t hurt to try it out for yourself.
